Wexford
Ireland’s sunny south east offers a wonderful assortment of cultural events, colourful festivals, art and craft exhibitions, sporting activities and pristine sandy beaches… and Wexford town is the perfect launch pad from which to enjoy it all.
A maritime town with a remarkable past, Wexford is dotted with remnants of historical eras from Viking and Norman to Medieval and Cromwellian, all scattered like gems among its narrow streets. The bustling town centre offers excellent shopping at a relaxed pace by day, and by night, incredible dining and a vibrant nightlife. You can enjoy a lively local pub scene where the service is warm and the pints cold, as well as a range of diverse and contemporary fine-dining restaurants offering cuisines to suit all tastes.
Take in one of Wexford’s many festivals celebrating local customs, culture and creative arts to round off your trip to the region. The highlight is the world-renowned opera festival that runs every October, drawing visitors from across the globe.
There’s something for all the family in County Wexford. There is a great selection of golf courses from parklands to links to choose from and within one hour’s drive of our guesthouse.
Children are well catered for with a variety of animal farm attractions, playzones and public swimming pools dotted around the county as well as activities such as Pirates Cove in Courtown.
When to visit Wexford
Wexford is a beautiful destination at any time of year. In summer the beaches and parks are the top attractions. Hordes of opera enthusiasts descend upon the town in autumn for the Wexford Festival Opera and its equally colourful accompanying fringe festival. In winter the Wildfowl Reserve is in full swing, and the European-style Christmas market at Wexford Winter Wonderland will get you into the spirit of the season. In May the streets are transformed into a foodie paradise as the Wexford Food and Wine Festival kicks off.
